You may be asking what is a heavenly hedge? That’s a great question that I have a simple answer to. It’s my terminology that refers to the protection that we are provided when we seek to live a godly life. In Psalms 5:11, 12 King David sings a song about the protection offered to those (us) who seek him out. You are entitled to a hedge of protection because it is written and promised to those who seek refuge in Jesus Christ. You strengthen those walls (hedge) and fortify your gates by building a personal relationship with God, through prayer, studying, worship, and fellowship.
Ps 5:11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. 12 For you bless the godly, O LORD; you surround them with your shield of love. (NLT).
A more poetic version of these scriptures is found in the King James Version
Ps 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. 12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as [with] a shield. (KJV).
There are other wonderful scriptures that talk about the hedge provided to us. A wonderful chapter to read is Psalms 91 that talks about all the dangers that we are protected from when we seek shelter under God’s protective arms.
A big thank you to Pastor Chad Keeteman from The Gathering Place for unknowingly providing the inspiration for the name of this blog through his teaching on Nehemiah.
